Now that you have a beautiful web site, the idea is that people other than you will take a look. We’re going to discuss building links to drive more traffic to your web site, to increase your ranking on search engines (making sure you are appearing when people search for relevant topics or businesses) and ultimately make your business more money!

Obviously you will want to share your webpage address with all of your customers in as many ways you can; in every email add an unobtrusive link in your signature or wherever you have contact information, on business cards, on signage, in advertisements, on your voicemail, during customer service phone calls, on invoices and any other touches you have with customers. Add your web address to all of your online profiles: Facebook, LinkedIn, Meetup, Yelp, Foursquare and Twitter.

A good way to inform people of your web site is to have other businesses or blogs link to you directly. Do you know anyone who is not a competitor who can share your web address with others? Would you be willing to share their link as well as a trade? This is called reciprocal link building. The more people you can do this with, the better. Be sure that these swaps and mentions are relevant and don’t appear to be spam.
